Hot Tear

A fracture formed in a metal during solidification because of hindered contraction.Tearing and cracking can take place during cooling in parts because of mold or core restraint.

Hot Tear            Hot tear

In aggravated instances, the resulting hot tears in the part appear as readily visible cracks. Sometimes, the cracks are not visible externally and are not detectable until after machining. the cracks become evident only through field failure because the tearing is deep inside the casting .

The problem can be resolved by establishing very restrictive controls on mold temperature, pouring temperature, and mold opening time following the end of the pouring operation

SUTCAST can predict the possibility of formation of hot tears in cast parts which helps foundry men reduce wastes before putting the plan into action.
